Founded in 1985 by the actor and director Jean-Louis Roqueplan, the Théâtre de l’ALAUDA – dramatic company of the Velay now brings together a team of up to ten artists per season and offers shows ranging from puppetry and children’s theatre to street theatre and the theatricalisation of remarkable sites.
Based in Le Puy-en-Velay, it long drew inspiration for its creations from the mountain culture of this territory, where the terrain, the snow and the winter leave a deep mark, with their constraints, on the history and present of the people who live there.
As the Velay traditionally expresses its culture in the Occitan language, Occitan is also a recurring element in its productions.
For about ten years, the company has specialised in burlesque street theatre that is above all visual, with a strong and consistent aesthetic for colourful, irreverent shows.
