THE MERCATORES

The Mercatores

Colourful, loud-mouthed travelling merchants, straight out of the 16th century

Our 8 travelling merchants carry on their backs large fans laden with goods typical of the period: candles, pilgrimage medals, meats and offal, ribbons and fabrics, gourds, parchments, inks and quills, wickerwork and baskets.

These “fake” goods are hung on supports rising very high above each Mercator’s back, so you can see and hear them coming from afar!!

The Mercatores express themselves above all visually and sing in Occitan   (the language used at that time in our region).

MERCHANDISE AND MUSIC

MERCHANDISE AND MUSIC

They constantly play with the audience to try to sell their bric-a-brac to best advantage, strike up a song or a piece of music whenever the fancy takes them, squabble over customers, make eyes at the gentlemen or vie for the favours of the damsels…

SCENETTES INTERACTIVES

SCENETTES INTERACTIVES

Their performance is therefore very interactive with the spectators, whom they call out to noisily and in front of whom they play little street scenes, before moving on with music and songs.

THEATRICAL, MUSICAL AND COMIC PERFORMANCE

MUSIC AND MERRIMENT

This entertainment results in a festive roaming parade and in a theatrical, musical and comical performance at a fixed location, which can be repeated up to 4 times a day (with a minimum of 1 hour’s break between each outing).

FRENCH AND FOREIGN MEDIEVAL FESTIVALS

MEDIEVALES

This concept has already led to numerous performances at major French and foreign medieval festivals: the Mercatores have been a great success, notably thanks to their highly visual nature, which makes them universally accessible.

MADE-TO-MEASURE COSTUMES

MADE-TO-MEASURE COSTUMES

The costumes correspond to 16th-century France (the Renaissance), but should they not suit your event, we can adapt them to a medieval period

Indeed, we organise historical festivals in France that recreate very varied periods, so we own many different costumes suited to each of them.
