The story
Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ “The Wonder Show” (El retablo de las maravillas) and by 16th-century Spanish theatre, this original show will introduce you to a fable full of humour that depicts the failings of the elites of a small town in the Spain of Philip II.
For them, painting and art in general are a marker of intelligence, good taste and the superiority of their caste over the rest of the world. They shamelessly use and manipulate the common people, whom they consider entirely at their service! In the end, however, Xavi, a servant, says: “In art, there is in fact only what you want to see in it.”
